Órgiva, Granada

Over 40 years, foreigners have settled in the main village of the Alpujarras. It has a moderate warm mountain climate with a lot of sunny days per year. There are many (underground) rivers that supply water all year round. At first sight, Órgiva looks like just another Spanish village. But when you start to connect with the vibe, you feel it radiates a high frequency. The level of synchronicities here is way higher than any other place we've ever been.
It feels like a village where we are co-creating a new society based on trust.
On a daily basis, you can go and choose from a wide range of workshops in the domain of personal development. The village has three organic food shops and a flourishing Thursday market. We have a public and a Montessori school ... and even an unschooling group. In the area, many spiritual and religious traditions live together in harmony.
Few places in the world are so welcoming to people who want to live a more conscious life.

Órgiva is a vivid, sunny place in Andalusia where people come to relax, reconnect and enjoy nature. It is hidden and at the same time well connected to the outside world:

The area has many beautiful hikes. From  our land, you can go for a beautiful walk down to the river or up to the mountains.

Location

Our paradise is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada at about 400 m above sea level. It's a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from Órgiva centre. The peace and tranquility is overwhelming. We are hidden in a quiet valley and we like to keep it like that. If you want to visit us, please announce your visit here. In return, we'll send you our exact coördinates. As we do not always have the capacity to welcome unannounced visitors, please don't share our exact location.

It takes 15 minutes to drive to Lanjarón (known for it's natural spring water and it's medicinal spa centre), in 30 minutes you are high up in the mountains in the white villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira. It's a 45 minute drive to Granada, to Motril, or to one of the beautiful beaches of Almuñecar or Salobreña. 1 hour from our place, you can have a massage in the natural, hot waterfalls in Santa Fe. Pradollano ski resort is at 1 hour 15 minutes,

The Property

Our 18 ha of land is south faced, with gentle slopes and old terraces that date back from more than 500 years ago. We have a beautiful view on the Sierra Lujar and the valleys of the Sucio River and the Guadalfeo River.  Our organic finca is blessed with an abundant flow of pure water from a spring that wells on our land. We have olive, avocado, almond, lemon, lime, orange, mandarin, grapefruit, kaki, passion fruit, grapes, peach, apricot, fig, pine, nispero, eucalyptus, monster fruit, dragon fruit, quince, acorn, pomegranate, pear, passion fruit, prickly pear, feijoa, carob, walnut, banana, red mulberry, nispero, kumquat ... and many more varieties of trees. We would love to add white mulberry, plums, pistachio, kiwi, kiwini, lychee, sugar cane, ...
Furthermore, we grow rosemary, lemon grass, laurel, mint, basil, stevia, curcuma, cardemom, capers,
potatoes, sweet potatoes, maïs, cabbages, aloë vera, pumpkins, tomatoes, zuchini, melons, straw-, rasp-, goji- and blueberries, ...

62 beehives take care of pollination, a goat shepherd and a sheep shepherd regularly come with their animals to graze and fertilize the land.
Our dream is to extend and diversify our ecological food forest and respect and nourish the biodiversity of the land. We have a lot of wildlife thriving on our property. Almendras Blancas is a dream for birdwatchers: depending on the season, we have sightings bee-eaters, golden oriole, eurasian jay, swallows,
little owls, eagle owls, hoopoes, eagles, finches, ... .
As for other animals: we  squirrels, foxes, frogs, toads, lizards, geckos, dragonflies, wild boar (=jabali) ... But don't worry about the jabali: our 2 lovely dogs keep them at a distance ...

When the time is ready, we might segregate 5 plots of 5.000 to 10.000 m2 of our Northern almond and olive grove for persons who intend to plant more trees to create an ecological food forest. If you feel the call, feel free to contact us.

Climate
From October till may, temperatures are mild with a lot of sunshine. From mid June till mid September, it is hot. During siesta hours, we advise you to have a swim in one of our refreshing natural pools or take a nap in a hammock in the shadow of our pine or avocado trees. The Stone House

In the center of the land, there is a charming, renovated house of 120m2. It has a living room with an open kitchen, an office, a room for the children, a bedroom, a bathroom and a big and a small storage room.
Next to the house is a 5 m x 10 m shed. The roof of the shed is the terrace of the house. It has an amazing view on the Sierra Lujar and overlooks the lower parts of the finca.

Abundance of Water

We have our privately owned source and we have acces to a pozo (drilled water well) high up in the mountains. In case of need, we can have water sent to our Northern, Upper alberca. The delivery of this water comes all the way through the acequia water system, designed by the Mores over 500 years ago.

Albercas (water deposits)

1 Spring Alberca (14m diameter)
The spring is located in the northwest tip of the land. A part of the spring water goes to the Spring Alberca. If we want to irrigate the Western part of the land, we should clean and restore this leaking Spring Alberca.

another part first flows through tubes to the Rectangular Pool alberca. At 3 places, the tubes that transport the water to our Rectangular Pool Alberca is leaking
.

2 Rectangular Pool Alberca (30 m x 6,8 m x 1,90 m)
This alberca is all year round filled with fresh water from our spring. It takes about 5 days to fill it. If we would close the 3 leaks in the tube that brings the water to our Rectangular Pool Alberca, we would get more water. This alberca is used to water the avocado forest. Besides a water deposit, it is a great swimming pool. Water from this alberca can be pumped up to the Northern, Upper Alberca.

3 Northern, Upper Alberca (14 m diameter)

The Northern, Upper Alberca is filled by pumping up water from the Rectangular Pool Alberca or by water coming down from a pozo (water pumped up from under the ground) near Cañar.

4 Oval Pool Alberca
To irrigate our secret valley and the south faced terraces we restored, we dug out an Oval Pool Alberca. It's filled with water from our spring. The temperature of the water is 3 to 8 degrees higher than the water of the Rectangular Pool Alberca. Ideal for morning or evening swimming.

Solar Power

The property is connected to the grid. Because we have a lot of sun hours, we invested in solar power. Our solar panels are waiting for our battery system to arrive in September 2023...
We have a double solar shower that runs without electrical pump, only on gravity.
